[personal profile] meus_venator posting in [community profile] j2_crack
So there are great crack options out there and
we wanted to ask your opinion on some.
Boys cracks
With the amazing [livejournal.com profile] j2_everafter closing it's doors : (  we were thinking of running a
J2_crack Magical Tales Bang (Name to be determined – ideas?).

We see it as being open to fic of all sizes and to both fairytales (Disney and others), cartoons (print and TV) and television series.
*And again remember, crack only has to have some unworldly aspect to it. Personally I consider pretty much all of J2_everafter crack, just because of the themes not because of the writing style. So to keep that in mind. Serious writing on strange/unlikely AUs is more than welcome.

We're thinking of having an open word count and an option for artists, videos or writers to go solo if they choose. Or a story/Vid/ art sign up to offered art or fic toward the end.

Other things we were thinking of:
• not having a draft submission, just an email check in that you're still doing okay and still onboard.
• having two potential posting rounds that you could commit to later. (A shorter deadline in apx two months and a longer deadline of four months.) So if anyone wants to post earlier (no matter the length of the story) they can.

[Poll #1920496][Poll #1920496]

So? Opinions? Thoughts? Naming ideas?

Little thing. I see that a few are giving the "nay" to draft submissions. Gotta disagree with that, as . . .

If a person is working alone on fic/art, then sure, no draft is needed, because if they lose interest and drop out, they won't impact anyone else.

BUT . . . if an author plans on having their piece claimed by an artist (as most Bangs do), then hell yeah, there should be a draft submission requirement, one placed upon both writer and artist to ensure that the artist doesn't get stuck with a writer who loses interest mid-stream, resulting in no story and nothing to illustrate, and the writer doesn't get stuck with a disappearing artist and no art for their fic. If that makes any sense. ;)

(Why, yes I HAVE suffered through non-communicative, disappearing!authors before, and I'm sure more than a few writers have met the same fate.)

If you're talking about author/artist collaborations, I have to agree with this from a writer's POV. I'm something of a procrastinator (read: massive procrastinator) and making me submit a rough draft a) forces me to commit to the challenge and b) ensures that I won't am considerably less likely to flake out on my artist. And perhaps everybody else doesn't need this kind of impetus, but I think challenges tend to be more successful/have a greater completion rate when the onus is placed on authors (and artists) early on in the process.

I write the draft in a rush to make the deadline, but then go back and almost have to rewrite it. I'd rather pace myself more evenly.

I think we all do that. :) Some of the art drafts I've submitted have changed 180º by the time they're finished.

Maybe it's a matter of a draft that's as complete as possible, but not necessarily an ending yet.

That definitely works! :)

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7. I think if there's no draft deadline, then some people write the final version in a rush to meet the deadline. If there's a draft deadline, at least there's time to rewrite. I think a draft at, like, 75% of the completed word count that at least has an ending outlined could work.

*nods* My rough drafts are always horror stories but at least it gives me somewhere to start and saves last minute panic over not having a story that's long enough. Blank documents are hard!

I participated in a challenge (can't remember which one, sorry) where you were only required to complete 80% of a story to hand in a rough (i.e. if there were missing scenes or no ending, that was okay, as long as you were in a position where finishing would be readily possible). It may also have been 80% of the min word count, but I couldn't say for sure.

This. Both author and artist should be required to "show their work."

As far as my experience on BB is kind of nonexistent, it's hard for me to give advice on how to do things. One thing, though: I'm primarily a writer but I do like to make art to and I think I would like for it to be permitted that a writer could offer to do art for another story than it's own. So far, it's not permitted on the other BB I looked upon so maybe there's a reason.

ALSO: I'm so in!!!!!! Writing lots of angst right now. Need this in my life!

I think my friends have known for a looong time, there's something wrong with me and my humor :)
I love the Fractured Fairy Tales name too.

Hmmm, any further ideas?
Possible words to be included in the name: Fantasy, Gay, Story time, Fairies, Magic, Story book
I like to use: poemhunter dot com to generate titles...
A story true at times, A world of fantasy, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Feeding the fairies, Jack the Stripper (lol), Once upon a crack story

Nope, I'll stop now. Fractured Fairy Tales is the best :)

Oo oo wait: Go The Fuck To Sleep!
Please include children's books! I can totally see a Miffy J2 version, or Winnie the Pooh, or Guess how much I love you, or We're going on a bear hunt.

O no, I need this challenge! Quick!

Could we do a quick meme now, and the bang-thingy later in the year?
Yes, can we?
Please?

TEEEHEEEEEEEEE!

So, yes, meme......
I haven't been around that long on LJ to have many suggestions: I like song prompts, or pictures, or a sentence/quote to be used.

I was just coming here to suggest the same thing, and then I was transfixed by Puss in Boots :D

(What is wrong with you, m-v? How can you not succumb to the giant kit-tey eyes???)

I adore the idea of some sort of fairy tale challenge, but I think it might be nice for us to dip our toes in with a comment meme or a team challenge ala spn-bigpretzel to start.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] linvro21, I think instead of Please you meant to say Pweeeaze?

A team challenge like the hats is fun, but afterwards you get A LOT of little fics.. The danger lurks in getting ore quantity than quality.
I can't help you out with a meme, maybe ask Deirdre_c?
Plus I like to write to some kind of prompt...
But maybe that's just me?

Maybe not a challenge, just a meme?
Is also less complicated for you.
